เป็นละครย้อนยุคอิงประวัติศาสตร์สมัยคาบสมุทรเกาหลีแบ่งออกเป็น 3 อาณาจักร คือ โคกูรยอ แพคเจ และชิลลา ตัวเอกของเรื่องคือ คิมชุนชู ซึ่งต่อมาจะได้ขึ้นสถาปนาเป็นกษัตริย์พระนามว่าพระเจ้าแทจงมูยอล แห่งอาณาจักรชิลลา พระองค์ทรงมีความสำคัญในหน้าประวัติศาตร์เกาหลีเพราะทรงเป็นผู้ที่รวมรวบสามอาณาจักรเข้าเป็นหนึ่งได้สำเร็จ ด้วยความช่วยเหลือของแม่ทัพคนสำคัญในสมัยนั้นอย่างคิมยูชิน นำแสดงโดย ชเวซูจง (Comrades, President) ในบทคิมชุนชู คิมยูซอก (Dong Yi) ในบทคิมยูชิน พัคจูมี (I Believe in Love) ในบท ราชินีซอนด๊อก อียองอา (Vampire Prosecutor) ในบท องค์หญิงซึงมัน/ราชินีจินด๊อก

Kim Chunchu is the grandson of King Jinji, but when his grandfather is overthrown, Chunchu is denied the chance to become a successor to the throne of Silla. He later meets Kim Yushin, and the two men begin a friendship. Chunchu later becomes King Muyeol, the 29th Korean monarch who leads the unification of three ancient kingdoms - Goguryeo, Baekje and Silla, while Kim Yushin becomes one of the greatest generals in Korean history.
