Many people say this movie is different from the book. However, as a Thai person who isn t familiar with Latin American culture, I found it impossible to imagine the types of characters Márquez intended to write. Watching this film helped me understand the political philosophy behind Benedict Anderson’s definition of society in Imagined Communities. If you want to know what kind of society people desire, try sharing a book with that community; you will begin to see the collective imagination of its people.
